AAdvantage® miles are earned on purchases, except balance transfers, cash advances, checks that access your credit card account, items and services returned for credit, unauthorized charges, interest and account fees, traveler’s checks, purchases of foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers (and similar cash-like transactions), lottery tickets, and gaming chips (and similar betting transactions). Miles may be earned on purchases made by primary credit cardmembers and Authorized Users. Miles earned will be posted to the primary credit cardmember’s AAdvantage® account in 8-10 weeks.

Balance transfers, cash advances, checks that access your credit card account, items and services returned for credit, unauthorized charges, interest and account fees, traveler’s checks, purchases of foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers (and similar cash-like transactions), lottery tickets, and gaming chips (and similar betting transactions) are not purchases. 25% savings on eligible inflight purchases of food and beverage

CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® credit cardmembers will receive a 25% savings on inflight purchases of food and beverages on flights operated by American Airlines when purchased with their CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card. This benefit applies to domestic flights marketed and operated by American Airlines or on domestic flights marketed by American Airlines and operated by Envoy Air Inc., Republic Airways Inc., SkyWest Airlines, Inc., Air Wisconsin Airlines, PSA Airlines, Inc., or Piedmont Airlines, Inc. This benefit is not available on codeshare flights booked with an American Airlines flight number but operated by another airline. Offer is available on eligible flights as long as supplies last. Authorized user
Employees may be added to the account as Authorized Users. Miles earned on an Authorized User’s credit card will be allocated to the AAdvantage® account of the primary credit cardholder and not to the Authorized User. You must pay us for all charges made or allowed by Authorized Users. Authorized Users are able to get account information. Authorized Users must be employees or contractors of your business. You need the Authorized User’s permission to give us any information about them that we request and to allow us to share information about them as allowed by applicable law. This includes information we may get from you, any Authorized User and others. It also includes information about their transactions on the account.
**AAdvantage Business™ FAQs
1. What is the AAdvantage Business™ program?
AAdvantage Business™ is a new loyalty program from American Airlines that rewards eligible companies and their business travelers for booking travel on AA.com, in the American app, or with American Airlines Reservations.
 
Program members also have access to a suite of tools to better manage business travel.
 
Starting October 16, 2023, new CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard® cardmembers will receive AAdvantage Business™ membership as an added benefit to the card. As a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® cardmember, you and your business travelers (Authorized Users) will earn miles and Loyalty Points toward status as part of the AAdvantage Business™ program.  The business also earns American Airlines AAdvantage® miles for purchases made on each credit card, both by the Primary Cardmember and by any Authorized Users. Primary Cardmembers and Authorized Users will earn Loyalty Points based on their card spend, which will post to their individual AAdvantage® account.
 
2. I already have a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® credit card. When will changes to my card take effect?
CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® cardmembers that opened their account before October 16, 2023 will be enrolled in the AAdvantage Business™ program at a later date. Stay tuned for additional communications from Citi and American Airlines on registration instructions for both your business and Authorized Users.
 
3. How do businesses earn AAdvantage® miles on employee travel?
Businesses earn 1 AAdvantage® mile for every 1 U.S. dollar on eligible business travel. Plus, with the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® Mastercard® businesses can earn 2 miles per $1 on eligible American Airlines purchases.

Keep in mind travelers must:

  • Book on AA.com, in the American app or with American Airlines Reservations
  • Be registered with the company’s AAdvantage Business™ account
  • Include both the business account number and their own AAdvantage® number in the reservation. This ensures they earn miles for the business and Loyalty Points for themselves, in addition to miles and Loyalty Points earned through their AAdvantage® membership.

4. Do AAdvantage® miles post to the Primary Cardmember’s AAdvantage® account?
No, all AAdvantage® miles earned from the Primary Cardholder and Authorized Users post to the AAdvantage Business™ account.

5. As a business owner, how do I view miles accrued from employees’ credit cards?
As a business owner, you can view accrued miles in the AAdvantage Business™ travel management portal.

6. Will the Primary Cardmember still earn Loyalty Points on purchases?
Yes, Primary Cardmembers may earn Loyalty Points for eligible purchases made on the credit card in their name. Other business travelers (Authorized Users) will earn Loyalty Points for every eligible purchase made on the credit card in their name. Loyalty Points will post to each cardmember’s individual AAdvantage® account.

7. How do I send miles from an AAdvantage Business™ account to an employee’s account?
American Airlines supports the ability to transfer AAdvantage® miles from the AAdvantage Business™ account to individual employee travelers. Mile transfers are free of charge if the traveler has registered with the business account.

8. Do I need 2 AAdvantage® accounts to separate personal and work travel?
No. AAdvantage Business™ members use their same AAdvantage® account to participate.
 
9. Will there be an annual Authorized User Fee to add business travelers?
No, there’s no fee to add an employee as an Authorized User on your CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® account. Once registered as an AAdvantage® member in the AAdvantage Business™ program, each employee will earn Loyalty Points for their card spend.
 
10. What happens when I add new employees?
You can register employees and individual contractors to your account, and they must have their own AAdvantage® account. Use the travel management portal to add travelers, track responses and manage invitations.
Once you add a traveler, they receive an email to complete registration. If they don’t register and the link expires, you can send another invitation from the travel management portal. If an employee declines the invitation, American Airlines will delete their traveler profile. If you’d like them to participate, you must add the traveler again and send another invitation.
Keep in mind you cannot register a traveler on their behalf because they must accept the terms to participate in the program.
 
11. Do employees need to register for the AAdvantage Business™ program?
Yes, employees must be registered in the program.
 
12. If my employee doesn’t have an AAdvantage® account, what should I do?
To participate Employees must create an AAdvantage® Account.
They can create an AAdvantage® account for free in minutes.
 
13. What happens if a card is closed?
Businesses that close their CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® credit card account (Primary or Authorized User) will no longer earn miles for the business or Loyalty Points for its travelers. However, they will still have an AAdvantage Business™ account that is now subject to program threshold requirements.

14. What happens when an employee leaves the company?

To remove an Authorized User from the AAdvantage Business™ program, call Citi and request to remove the Authorized User. Once they are removed from the credit card account, they can be removed from the program in the portal.

Travel Managers should remove a traveler (employee) from the AAdvantage Business™ account. The Primary Cardholder should also remove the Authorized User from the credit card account.

15. Do miles expire for the AAdvantage Business account if there’s an active CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® credit card linked?
No, miles do not expire if an active CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® credit card is linked to the AAdvantage Business™ account.
